Wearing a 'shalya' and dhoti, AICC president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday paid a visit to the Sringeri Sharadamba temple and offered prayers to the goddess.

He prayed and made an offering of 108 coconuts and 'modaks' to the Sringeri Thorana Ganapathy. People in the area believe that Thorana Ganapathy never lets down his devotees.

Later Rahul called on the mutt seer Bharathi Theertha Swamiji at the Narasimhavana and received his blessings. He fed the fish in the holy temple pond.

The Gandhi family has a deep rooted connection with the 1300 year old mutt for both religious and political reasons.

Many years ago both Rahul's grandmother former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and his father Former PM Rajiv Gandhi, had visited Sringeri and met the Sharadha Peetha seer then. Rahul walked in their footsteps today.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwara, state in-charge MP K C Venugopal, MP Mallikarjuna Kharge, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and other leaders were with Rahul.
