Railway staff, who were held up on a railway line, amid landslides at Kaginere on Subrahmanya-Sakleshpur railway route were rescued on Friday.
The railway track near Yedakumari, Sakleshpur, was covered with debris following heavy landslides in the region.
A team of around 12 railway staff members from Sakleshpur had been to clear the debris off the track in order to facilitate the movement of trains. But, all of them got stranded following landslides on both ends of the track. Frequent landslides occurred while they were carrying out the restoration work at Kaginere. The workers had lost access to food for two days.
A rescue team headed by Assistant Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy and Tahsildar Girish Nandan reached out to the stranded staff by walking across the railway tracks.
The workers have safely reached Sakleshpur.
