Rain continued to play havoc in Sullia and Bantwal taluks of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, forcing tahsildars of the respective taluks to declare holidays for schools.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has ordered a ban on entry of vehicular traffic on Shiradi Ghat till 6 am on August 25 following landslides and heavy rain on the stretch.
The Nethravathi and Kumaradhara flowing above the danger level in Bantwal and Subrahmanya. The water-level in Nethravathi stood at 8.6 metres (at 7 am) against the danger level of 8.5 metres.
Around 15 families in Kulkunda-Kuduremajalu in Subrahmanya have been shifted to safer locations following the flood situation in the area.
Around three shops and houses have been partially marooned at Subrahmanya Junction.
Eight houses have been inundated in Panja and Noochila near Subrahmanya. A woman suffered injuries when a house collapsed at Kollamogru in Subramanya.
The water level in river Nethravathi has increased in Uppinangady and the Hosamata bridge on Kadaba-Subrahmanya road continues to remain under water for the last five days.
A few shops have been inundated at Goodinabali in Bantwal taluk. The low-lying areas in Bantwal taluk, too, are inundated. The waterlogged Sullia-Arambooru road has caused a lot of inconvenience to motorists.
Hemmige bridge submerged
For the first time in 20 years, the Hemmige bridge at Talkad in T Narsipur taluk of Mysuru district is completely submerged as the water discharge from both the KRS Dam and Kabini Dam has increased.
While 55,000 cusecs of water is being released from the Kabini Dam into the Kapila river, 1.2 lakh cusecs of water is being released from KRS Dam. The Cauvery and Kapila Rivers meet at T Narsipur.
The train track between Hassan, Sakleshpur, Subramanya is blocked by landslides and needs at least one week to clear said Divisional Railway Manager Aparna Garg.
10 earth movers, 180 labourers, 10 officials and 45 supporting staff are working to restore the tracks, Garg added.
