Bengaluru: Incessant rains lashed most parts of north interior and central Karnataka on Thursday, causing widespread damage to crops and battering road and power infrastructure.

Three people, including a child, died in rain-related incidents in the state.

While a 9-year-old boy was washed away in a drain in Haveri town, a 70-year-old woman died after a portion of her house wall collapsed in Chitradurga. In Hukkeri taluk, a couple was swept away. The body of one of them was recovered later while a search was on for the other.

Ready-for-harvest maize and onion crops in Chitradurga and Davangere districts have suffered damages while paddy on vast tracts in Davangere, Ballari, Vijayanagar and Koppal districts perished due to waterlogging.

Incidentally, several districts in south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, had a quiet day on Thursday with rain taking a break.

The weather office has sounded a yellow alert on Friday for six district including Ballari, Vijaynagar, Davangere, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur and Kolar.
