‘Relief centres have enough food materials’

A total of 428 rain victims of Jodupala in Kodagu are sheltered at three relief centres—Thekkila community hall in Aranthodu, Sampaje Kallugundi School and at Government High School, Sampaje.

Speaking to DH, Nodal Officer Himakara at Thekkila hall said that a total of 230 victims had registered at the centre, of which 42 have left for their relatives’ houses in nearby areas. At present, 188 people including two pregnant women are provided shelter at the centre.

A total of 19 people have been brought to the centre on Sunday, of which, seven to eight people were rescued from hilly ranges of Jodupala while others had stayed in their relatives’ house on Saturday and have come back to the relief centre on Sunday. One child who is suffering from fever has been shifted to KVG Medical College for treatment, said the officer.

“We have enough food materials to maintain supply for a week. In fact, donors are continuing to flood the relief materials to the relief centre. Even the DC and AC have given permission to purchase whatever materials are required for the victims. Many victims who are staying at the centre are visiting the local houses to bathe as well. There are 10 toilets in the centre,” he said.

Donors have provided mats, drinking water, bread, snacks and other materials for the victims, said Nodal Officer Hanumantharayappa.

A total of 162 people are provided shelter at Sampaje High School, of whom 15 were brought to the centre from the affected areas on Sunday.
