This temple, situated behind the Vaidyanateshwara Swamy Temple, was in a dilapidated condition, due to vagaries of nature. After inspection, the gopuram of the temple had been removed.
Subsequently, the repair works were not done except minor works now and then. Now, this temple is being thoroughly repaired at a cost of ` 75 lakh released by the Union Government for this purpose.
This temple had been built by the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhan after a triumph over the Cholas.
The idol had been consecrated by the royal priest, acharya Sri Bhagwan Ramaswamachar. Since then, this temple had been one of the prime attractions in Talkad.
The priests conducted a number of rituals before the commencement of the repair works. Tahsildar V R Shailaja, Temple Executive Officer Rajashekar, Talkad GP President R Sundarraj, Rajgopal, Srinivasa Iyengar, Srinivasachar, Madhavachar, Ramaswamy Iyengar and others were present.
