Revenue Minister V Sreenivas Prasad on Wednesday announced that a re-survey of revenue lands in the State will be taken up under the National Land Records Modernisation Programme (NLRMP).
The Centre has released Rs 14 crore for the project and, survey in five districts of Chikkballapur, Bangalore Rural, Ramanagar, Tumkur and Belgaum will be taken up in the first phase.
The project will be extended to the remaining districts and re-survey will be completed in three years, he said after distributing appointment letters to newly-recruited land surveyors by the Revenue department.
1,858 posts filled
Prasad said that out of the 4,012 sanctioned posts of land surveyors in the Revenue department, 2,220 were vacant. Of these vacant posts, 1,858 have now been filled.
Candidates who have done a job-oriented course (land and city survey) or have an industrial training institute certificate (survey trade) and who had qualified in the examinations, were rejected on the grounds that they had not worked in a recognised company earlier.
Since, working in a recognised company for appointment of land surveyors was necessary, amendments were made to the Cadre and Recruitment rules to facilitate their appointment.
Reservation in appointment of surveyors has been given to candidates from Hyderabad-Karnataka region, as per amendment made to Article 371 ‘J’, he said. Prasad said that there are 100 civil engineering graduates among the 1,858 land surveyors recruited on Wednesday. Besides, 300 have a diploma in civil engineering.
As many as 904 candidates who have scored over 60 per cent in PUC (Science) too have been selected. In view of ‘over-qualified’ candidates applying for land surveyor posts, a special drive will be held to provide more opportunities to candidates with basic qualification, he said.
Remuneration hiked
The minister said renumeration for licenced land surveyors has been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 800 per case. To provide guarantee of labour, the department will also ensure that each land surveyor handles at least 20 cases a month.
