Rs 306 crore to develop 1,224 tanks in 9 districts

He was speaking ata press meet here on Sunday. Under the world bank project following developing of 1224 tanks, 97,000 hectares of catchment area will be stabilised, he said.

The watershed project implemented in 2001, has taken up developement of  2005 tanks. An outlay of Rs 290 crore has aleady been spent and with the balance amount additional 694 tanks from 34 taluks will be developed.

The first phase of the project will be completed by 2012. In the second phase work on 1224 tanks will be taken up. The action plan for 23 tanks has been prepared and an amount of Rs 2.28 crore has been released, he said.

The project is on private -public participation. The selected villages should form Tank Development Associations and register themselves, he said.
