He was speaking at a function organised by the Kolar-Chikkaballapur Milk Producers’ Federation to distribute cheques for the meritorious students who excelled in the SSLC and PUC exams, in Chikkaballapur on Monday.
He said, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has approved the acquisition of 15 acres of land at a horticulture farm on National Highway - 7 to set up the dairy. He said, the Horticulture Department had earlier objected to the proposal to acquire the land for the project.
However, due to the intervention of Union Ministers Veerappa Moily and K H Muniyappa, district In-Charge Minister Dr Mumtaz Alikhan, the district legislators and the deputy commissioners who discussed the issue with the Chief Minister.
BSY to be felicitated
As the Chief Minister agreed to the proposal, a delegation led by the district in-charge minister will felicitate the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on February 4 in Bangalore to express their gratitude, Nagaraj added.
The delegation will also hand over a cheque for Rs 55 lakh collected by the Federation towards the relief works in the flood-affected areas of North Karnataka.
He said a proposal will be submitted to allocate Rs 20 crore for development works of the mega dairy.
Federation Director R Narayanappa said Rs 65 crore was allocated for the mega dairy for the undivided Kolar district and Rs 5 crore has already been released. The work is in progress in Kolar, he added.
