Thieves struck at an ATM of a private bank and decamped with Rs 6 lakh at Kamalapur of the district on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The miscreants struck at the Axis Bank ATM at Maatur complex in the city. The incident came to light on Thursday evening.
Police sources said that the thieves, after entering the ATM kiosk, downed the shutters and used a gas-cutting machine to break open the ATM.
They took the money, came out of the kiosk, downed the shutters again and fled. The incident came to light when the bank staff arrived at the kiosk to deposit cash. They informed the police. A case is yet to be registered by the Kamalapur police.
