The H D Kumaraswamy administration on Thursday tabled Supplementary Estimates to the tune of Rs 6,980 crore, of which almost two-thirds are for waiving crop loans in the cooperative sector and clearing pending bills of the Public Works Department.
The first instalment of Supplementary Estimates for the 2018-19 fiscal, tabled in the Legislative Assembly by Law Minister Krishna Byre Gowda in Kumaraswamy’s stead, also includes the expenditure of Rs 200 crore for drought relief measures.
The Supplementary Estimates are additional expenditures incurred by the state government over and above the budget proposals for the financial year.
The government has a made a provision of Rs 2,600 crore to waive short-term loans borrowed by farmers from cooperative societies or banks. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had earmarked Rs 4,000 crore in his budget to pay off the balance of a cooperative crop loan waiver his predecessor Siddaramaiah had announced.
