He was speaking after inaugurating one-day seminar on ‘Alternatives to sand and recent trends in appropriate technologies for construction’ organised by Builders Association of India (BAI) and Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India, (CREDAI) Mysore Centre at Senate Bhavan in the city.
Ramdas said the issue will be discussed with those involved in construction industry soon after drafting the policy. Continuing, Ramdas said though it is impossible to check the irregularities in one go, the government will initiate steps to curb it gradually, thus facilitating to switch over to alternatives of sand to conserve natural resources.
He appealed to the organisers to forward the resolutions of the seminar to the government. He said the proceedings of the seminar will be a guiding stone to draft the policy. Delineating on constructions, Ramdas said in our eagerness to incorporate technology, there seems to be a compromise in quality.
Referring to Ambavilas Palace that will complete 100 years of its existence in next two years and Government Guest House that has completed 200 years, Ramdas sought to know why there was a dearth of such engineering marvels in the present scenario.
He gave a clarion call to the engineering students to strive hard to leave indelible marks in the realm, keeping aside monetary returns.
‘Sorry’
Playing recorded disc of national anthem that has unfortunately become a tradition in programmes too, was practiced at BAI programme only to cut a sorry figure.
As soon as the disc was played, it developed a snag. The person in-charge of the event said ‘sorry’ and rectified it only to repeat his ‘sorry’ since the snag returned.
Minister Ramdas who was quick to notice it, thought it was wise to render the national anthem than waiting for the disc.
Subsequently, the gathering joined Ramdas in chorus and fortunately the disc was repaired playing the anthem without any interruption.
But, it didn’t stop the gathering from singing the anthem, who may have thought it prudent to continue instead of cutting a sorry figure again.
