Scaling wall captivates youthAdventure sports

The competitions held at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium witnessed students from the School for Deaf and Dumb, Adhyayan School and Government ITI participating in wall climbing. Adding to the sporting action, was participation by Mayor Sandesh Swamy, who tried his hand at wall climbing.

The youngsters were introduced to the wall climbing techniques by trainers of the National Adventure Foundation. Safety chords were put in place for those slipping during the climb. Competitions were held for both boys and girls.

Self confidence

Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Mayor Sandesh Swamy said that such adventure sports builds the leadership quality and self-confidence among people. While, earlier such sport was restricted only military and police personnel, now everybody can take part, he added.

DYSS Assistant Director K Suresh said that participation in sports gives physical and mental stability to students. He also mentioned that in future, water sports will also be introduced for students.

National Adventure Foundation Director Rukmini Chandran, Health Department’s Dr Nirmala and DYSS players and others were present on the occasion.

Results

R Shivu and Tasmin emerged as overall champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Government ITI College student R Shivu climbed 35 feet within 1:06 sec, while Tasmin of Adhyayan School scaled the wall in 5:30 sec.

Boys: R Shivu (Government ITI College, first place), Manohara (Government ITI College, second place), Suhail (School for Deaf and Dumb, third place).

Girls:  Tasmin, Reshma and Noor Fathima secured the top three prizes respectively.
