A second round of the socio-economic census (caste survey) will be conducted in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits to enumerate households not covered under the survey.
Replying to a question raised by Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on behalf of R Ashoka (both BJP) in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya said that of the 21.16 lakh households in the BBMP limits, as many as 18.8 lakh households (88.82 per cent) were covered during the survey in April-May.
The survey had been completed in all the other districts, he said. Enumerators found the doors of 1.01 lakh houses locked even after multiple visits and as many as 21,645 households refused to provide details. He said 1.13 lakh households pertained to people living in temporary homes, guesthouses, hotels and lodges. The duration of the caste survey has been already extended five times in the BBMP limits. The dates pertaining to covering the yet-to-be enumerated households will be announced after discussing the issue with the chief minister, he said.
The census is being conducted at a cost of Rs 189 crore, of which Rs 136 crore has been released.
