She was speaking at a seminar on ‘Oppose exploitation of women’ organised by All India Mahila Samskruthika Sanghatane (AIMSS) at JSS Women’s DEd College in the city. The writer said the exploitation of women continues though she manages the house — from daily chores to others.

The current society is giving equal prominence to economy, forgetting human values. Drawing an analogy between women in urban and rural parts, she said women folk in both the places work outside as well as tending to their children. However, it could do nothing to stop atrocity on them.Adding to this there is an increase in human trafficking involving women and innocent children.

“Taking undue advantage of their innocence, people with ill-motive are forcing them into immoral trafficking after luring them with jobs, marriage promises among other reasons. There are instances of men raping their own daughters. Youth, irrespective of gender, are being painted in bad light in TV serials, causing a negative impact on the younger generation.”

Srimathi Hariprasad said women are forced to tolerate injustice, due to their lack of knowledge on law. The time is ripe to impart education on self-empowerment, besides giving inputs on government projects to improve their economic ability.

These are the only keys to check exploitation of women, as the present society is flexible without curtailing their freedom, when compared to earlier days, she stated.

AIMSS district committee member P S Sandhya said the seminar had been organised as a prelude to the forthcoming national-level women’s meet being organised in Bangalore.

District committee president Vandana, Mamata Suresh and students were present.
