The DCIB sleuths have seized six cattle which were allegedly stolen and transported illegally in a tempo at Sonandoor Adthila in Poonjalkatte on Thursday.
SP Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda said that acting on a tip-off, the police chased the vehicle in which the stolen cattle were transported illegally. On realising that the police are after them, the illegal transporters abandoned the vehicle besides the road and fled in a car which was following them.
The police have identified the suspected as Farooq Sajipa, a resident of Ammemmar, Jainu alias Jainuddin, Arafa and two other residents of Farangipet. Poonjalkatte police have registered a case under Prevention of cruelty Animal Act 1960 and section 66, 192(a) IMV Act.
Cow meat seized
In a separate incident, the police have seized 850 kg cow meat which was being transported illegally in a vehicle and arrested two persons at Jakribettu in Bantwal on Thursday.
The incident came to light when the vehicles were subjected to inspection on the spot. The police noticed that 850 kg of meat was being transported without any documents.
The arrested are driver Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Thumbe Ramalkatte and Samseer of Bambila. Among the arrested, Jabbar was involved in an illegal cattle transportation case at Charmadi reported three months ago.
During the interrogation, they have revealed that the meat was being transported to Central Market in Mangaluru for sale, SP said.
