She was speaking after accepting the ‘Kavitha Memorial Award’ instituted by Yashoda Ragow Trust at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) here on Sunday.

Slamming primary education minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, Neela said that if those opposed to teaching Bhagavad Gita should leave the country, then women would be the first targets.

Mentioning the issue of farmer suicides, Neela said instead of addressing the problems faced by ryots, the government is thinking about unimportant issues. She said administrative inefficiences and globalisation had directly resulted in increasing burden on farmers.

Rajya Raitha Sangha women’s unit president K S Nandini Jayaram said farmers are the only people working without a salary. Agriculture, globalisation and liberalisation policies have caused problems to farmers. Ryots are now not even able to meet the basic needs of their families.

KSOU vice chancellor Prof K S Rangappa released ‘Raitha Mahila’ on the occasion. Karnataka State Gangubai Hanagal (KSGH) University of Music and Performing Arts vice-chancellor Dr Hanumanna Nayak Dore, litterateur Dr C P Krishnakumar, trust founder Yashoda Ragow, Prof A Rangaswamy were present.
