Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new police station at Javagal in Arsikere taluk on Wednesday, he sought to clarify that Karnataka is not the only State in the country to implement this act as this had already been in force in seven States. In fact Dr Ambedkar had realised the importance of cows and cattle and had stressed on protection of cows in the Constitution. Those who respect the Constitution should agree to it, he added.
Without mentioning the name of former prime minister, H D Deve gowda, Dr Acharya advised those who are opposing the act to read the Constitution once. The Opposition parties are opposing the bill without proper knowledge on the Constitution. They are playing vote bank politics. There are records that even the Muslim rulers had prohibited cow slaughter in their respective kingdoms. The rule has been in force in Jammu and Kashmir where the majority of people are the Muslims.
On sharing of Cauvery water between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the minister said the monsoon is yet to pick up in the State and there has been scanty rains till date. Under the current situation, it would not be possible to release water to Tamil Nadu as per schedule. It is true that only 68 per cent of water has been released so far. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has favoured amicable settlement of the water row.According to weather report, monsoon is expected to gear up across the state in the next ten days. If the reservoirs fill to the brim, there would not be any problem in releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
