Lakappa Kariennavar had filed a PIL, challenging the sand mining undertaken at Survey 174/175/176 at Jamdaddi village in Jamkhandi taluk in Bagalkot district. The petitioner argued that Suresh Akkivat, had been given conditional permission for mining sand, which excluded the use of boats or any mechanised equipment for the purpose. These conditions were violated, the petitioner stated.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar admitted the PIL and granted an injunction on the mining. The hearing has been adjourned.
