A female infant that was brought to the Shahapur burial ground here under the impression that it was a stillborn shocked everyone by moving its limbs and proving that it was still alive.

The incident occurred on Monday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Market) sub-division Shankar Marihal said the workers at the Shahapur burial ground informed the police that a baby girl was brought by a ‘Kannada speaking family of five men and one woman’.

They refused to reveal the name of the hospital where the baby was born or which place they come from.

All that they said was that the infant was born in a private hospital and was a stillborn.

But as the grave-diggers began digging, the baby started moving its limbs and proving that it was alive. When the grave-diggers refused to bury the baby, the people who had brought it, left the burial ground, taking the infant with them, the police said.

“Efforts are being made to trace them,” Shankar Marihal said.
