'Strict action against vehicles using shrill horns'

Strict action will be taken against vehicles using shrill horns, warned Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi.

Speaking at the weekly phone-in programme here, on Friday, Nimbargi instructed his subordinates to seize vehicles using shrill horns and to register cases on the spot. He directed his team to take up special drive and seize vehicles with shrill horns at Kundapur, Malpe, Manipal and Udupi.

Nimbargi stated that a fine is already being imposed and also a warning is issued to the vehicles using shrill horns. He added that all the officials’ right from DySP rank till traffic police should take up the drive. Once the vehicles are seized, they should be released through court, he said. The SP also received a complaint about the sale of illegal liquor in the house of a former zilla panchayat member in Karkala. However, it turned out to be hoax.

There were complaints against the irregular parking in front of Sri Venkatramana Temple in Karkala, Manipal and in the backyard of Udupi court complex. The SP also received complaints over autorickshaw drivers charging exorbitant fare, especially at Santhekatte area. After the previous phone in-programme, the SP said that as many as five matka cases were registered and five people were arrested.

Five gambling cases were registered and 40 people were arrested. One illegal liquor sale case and four NDPS cases are being registered.
