Fun, frolic, creativity, music and culture unveiled at ‘Incident 2012,’ the national-level cultural extravaganza orgainsed by National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) at Surathkal on Wednesday.

The five-day fiesta kicked off with a formal inauguration by NICE Managing Director Ashok Kheny. Addressing the gathering, Kheny humorously remembered his student days in NITK.

“We had struggled to buy a projector as it cost Rs 33,000 in 1972. Our mess bill was Rs 40 a month. Time has changed and what NITK has become today is truly marvelous,” he said.

He also advised students, not to fall prey to drugs. “Many youth easily succumb to drugs with peer pressure. They want to become heroes in front of their friends. However, it is not necessary to be heroes for them. You are already heroes to your families,” he said and told students to invest their energy in sports and cultural activities than taking a destructive path.

The first Incident Convenor Umar Teekay was the guest of honour for the programme. Going down the memory lane, he explained the challenges faced by him as a student convenor in 1980.

NITK Surathkal Director Professor Sandeep Sancheti presided over the programme. The Basket Ball court was inaugurated on the occasion. The first music album by NITK students ‘Incidents 2012’ was also released. The inaugural was followed by the eastern musical ‘Bandish’.

As many as 8 bands from different colleges, made the students rock to some of the Indian chart toppers.
