It was as if a cluster of superstars had descended on town. People were seen thronging the main streets of the city waiting to catch a glimpse of the speeding icons. The crowds were in abundance especially near colleges.
Whether it was motorists, passers-by or even those licking their fingers on a light snack in the cool breeze of the evening, once the cavalcade with ‘stars’ passed through the streets, all watched with awe.
The icons stealing the hearts of fans were none other than the — Bangalore Pandhi’s on 40 Harley Davidson motorbikes — who arrived in the city on Saturday evening as part of Jayciana-2012, the annual college festival of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE).
Having organised the ride with the theme ‘Ride for safety,’ the Bangalore Pandhi’s started their ride in the city from a private resort and passed through Race Course Road, the busy D Devaraja Urs road, the tree-lined Hunsur road, deviating towards the cosmopolitan Kalidasa road, navigating the green Manasagangothri campus and finally reaching SJCE campus.
Even as the monstrous sound of the Harley Davidson motorbikes were heard near the Manasagangothri campus, a large number of students from various colleges had lined-up on either side of the road to catch a glimpse of the wonder bikes.
Crowd-pullers
As news of the motobikes arriving at SJCE campus spread, more than 500 college students gathered to catch a glimpse of various models such as Sportster, Fatboy, Iron 833 and Street Bob.
Riders Suresh and Altaf shared their experience of visiting the city with Deccan Herald. Altaf said,
“We never expected such a large crowd to turn up at the event.” He exclaimed it was heartening to see such a huge number of motorbike lovers visiting the campus to have a glimpse of the bikes. He said the group includes four motorbikes from the city participating in the ride.
Suresh remarked that wherever they take the Harley’s, they have received an overwhelming response from the people. “People come and have a look at the bike and try to get a feel of it. It’s everybody’s dream to own a Harley.” he added.
Ecstatic about having a look at the Harley Davidson motorbikes, Avinash, a student of SJCE said, “I’ve seen a couple of bikes earlier. But this is the first time I’m seeing them together. The sound of the Harley Davidson is amazing,” he exclaimed.
