Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said one among the 10 accused youths arrested in Matka case was externed from the district by the deputy commissioner on the recommendation of police.
“The report on externing nine other accused youths is being looked into by the DC Priyanka Mary Francis,” Nimbargi told media persons at a phone-in programme organised at his office.
The SP said five men involved in theft cases reported in Udupi were arrested in Davangere and they will be brought to Udupi for further inquiry. In the programme, callers urged the SP to take cation against the students travelling on the foot boards of buses in Hebri and Udupi.
Nimbargi said 10 Matka cases were registered and 11 men were arrested. A gambling case was registered and three suspected youths were arrested. Sixty-six cases were registered under drunk driving, 182 for shrill horns, 88 cases for using mobile while driving and 2823 cases for other crimes under Motor Vehicle Act. One NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) act case was registered, he gave details.
The SP also received complaints against shrill horns from residents in Manipal. The residents also complained about the minors riding motorbikes and driving the four-wheelers, triple ride on the motorbikes at Malpe and riding without helmets.
He also received complaints against overspeeding buses, lack of road rumblers on service roads next to the Brahmavar bus stops and prostitution rackets near KSRTC Bus Stand in Udupi.
The callers also spoke about adopting measures to help senior citizens to cross the roads. The public also complained against heavy goods-laden tankers which are creating problems for two-wheelers at Brahmavar milk dairy area by plying in the opposite direction on the stretch dedicated for one-way traffic.
