As the Fourth Swachh Survekshan, for 2019, has started, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is making all efforts to regain the ‘cleanest city’ tag. The Swachh Survekshan will be conducted from January 4 to 31 and the team will be visiting the city for assessment during this period.

Various associations and organisations have extended support to the MCC in this regard.

The MCC Contractors Association, Mahalakshmi Sweets and Hotel Siddhartha have volunteered to offer a total of 27 excavators, 45 tractors, 15 tipper lorries, and five lever machines to the MCC, free of cost, to be used for the purpose. The machines would be used at all wards of the city, to remove debris, level the area and also to take up cleanliness work.

Mysuru, which had won the cleanest city award twice, in 2015 and 2016, had to be content with the best ‘Cleanest Medium City’ (for a population between three lakh and ten lakh) award last year. It had slipped to the eighth spot in 2017 and 2018.

The MCC officials are confident that the city would regain the ‘clean city’ tag this year, as the city is ready for the survey and several meetings and awareness drives have been already conducted.

The officials have distributed pamphlets among the public to create awareness. Community toilets have been installed at all parts of the city and there are wet and dry waste bins at all commercial areas and importance is given for segregating waste at source.

Door-to-door visit

The residents have already started using the Swachhata App. They can call on toll-free number 1969 and reply to seven questions.

Besides, the team will visit the city and collect information personally and will also take photographs.
