Western Ghats Task Force Chairman Anantha Hegade Ashisara has urged the district administration to take immediate precautionary measures to prevent any possible landslide in Neriya of Belthangady taluk.

He visited the place on Sunday that had witnessed a major landslide last year affecting several families, and immediately brought the impending danger to the attention of the local tahsildar. Speaking to Deccan Herald over telephone, Ashisara said there would be landslide in Neriya at any time if heavy rains continue and hence the district administration should take some urgent steps to shift the remaining families there.

“I have brought the matter to the attention of the tahsildar, and hope that he would visit the place and report to the district administration at the earliest,” he said.

Ashisara also chaired a meeting with the forest officials and residents coming under the limits of Kudremukh National Park, and chalked out various plans for ecological development there.

The representatives of 15 eco-development committees and forest officials, besides the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, took part in the meeting, and discussed the future plan of action.

The Task Force Chairman also visited the Medicinal Plants Conservation Area in Charmady ghat and chalked out programmes to improve it further.
