After giving a new lease of life to the Daddalakadu Government School, the Sri Durga Friends president Prakash Anchana has now decided to extend the ‘Sarkari Shaale Ulisi Belesuva Abhiyana’ to other government schools in the district.

Prakash Anchan and his team have been striving to improve the quality of education in government schools, thereby increasing the enrolment in the schools.

A government higher primary school at Kookrabettu in Marodi village of Belthangady taluk is on the verge of closure.

Village stay

Prakash and his team will hold a ‘Grama Vastavya’ (village stay) in the village on February 2.

The team will hold a consultation meeting with parents and villagers at 9.30 am on February 3. The local MLA, elected representatives and officials will take part.

Following reforms at the Daddalakadu school in Bantwal, the number of children has increased from 28 in 2015 to 450 in 2018.

At present, 16 children are studying at the Kookrabettu school.

Anchan said, “The government schools are on the verge of closure due to the English medium education. Several government schools have already entered the pages of history. If the situation continues, hundreds of government schools in Karnataka will be shut down.”

He said, “The chief minister had announced starting English medium in 1,000 government schools. However, it has not been implemented following opposition by a few. Through the Sarkari Shaale Ulisi Belesuva Abhiyana Samithi, we have started pre-schools in several government schools in increase the enrolment.”

He said, “At Marodi, parents are sending their children in private schools by paying hefty fees.”

In-charge head teacher Suphala said, “The school at Kookrabettu has all the basic facilities. The school has two-acre land. Priority has been given for imparting quality education in the school.”
