Six people, including two kids, died after a car they were travelling in crashed into a lorry head-on near Kalakeri on Chitradurga-Solapur Highway in the taluk on Sunday evening.

All six victims from Solapur in Maharashtra and Indi taluk, were travelling in a Tata Indica car to Bengaluru.

Deceased are: Raghavendra Kamble (28) and Jayashri Kamble (25) from Solapur, Khajappa Banasode (36) Akshay Shivasharan (22), Rakhee (4) and Rashmika (2), all natives of Indi taluk.

According to police, the speeding car might have jumped the divider following a tyre burst and hit the Gujarat-bound lorry in the opposite lane. The impact of the crash has reduced the car into a heap of mangled metal. The police had a tough time in extracting the bodies from the wreck.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the family of the deceased.
