Two women are said to have gone into coma stage within a few minutes of undergoing sterilisation surgery at the district hospital in the city on Wednesday.
The women have been identified as Keerthi of Chikkenahalli, Channarayapatna taluk and Mahadevamma of Kikkeri in Mandya district. They have been shifted to Bengaluru for further treatment.
Meanwhile, their family members staged a flash protest claiming doctors’ negligence. According to a source, the surgeries were conducted on December 18. Both the women became unconscious as soon as they were administered the injection. Tension prevailed for a while at the hospital after the incident, as the family members claimed that the doctors had given high dosage injection which led to their unconsciousness.
However, Resident Medical Officer Dr Krishnamurthy said there was no medical negligence. There is no need for anxiety, he said.
