The president and the four members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) have resigned citing the reason that they are deprived of support from the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis told DH that the CWC president and the members were unhappy with the functioning of Bal Mandir superintendent.
They had given representation in January. The superintendent was contacted and when she failed to set right the problem, the issue was raised with the director. However, the CWC team was unaware and the department has also failed to keep them informed, as per their accusations. A show-cause notice is also served to the Bal Mandir superintendent with regard to the complaint made by CWC.
Francis said that she held a meeting with the CWC team and briefed them over the action taken following their complaint on Monday. They seem to be satisfied and have assured to continue with the committee, she added.
Earlier, the CWC President Ronald Furtado charged that district administration is lackadaisical in its attitude. There is no cooperation from the district administration for any rehabilitation taken up by CWC. The committee repeatedly approached the deputy commissioner, but in vain. The rescued children are rehabilitated at Bal Mandir in Nittur. However, sometimes the district administration does not come forward to lend support in the process of furnishing the formalities, Furtado alleged.
