Addressing the members, President Dinaker Shetty said measures have been taken to mitigate artificial floods. Desilting works are under progress. Most of the works are nearing completion.
Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak informed the house that desilting works were carried out on priority basis. Drains at Kalsanka and Kinnimulkhi were given prime importance as these two areas pose the threat of artificial floods at greater risk, he added.
Congress member Jayananda alleged that the wards in the old city areas that come under CMC limits are not given importance when comapred to other wards. Most of the patch works and desilting works are left pending. There are as many as 18 wards that lack all round development, he added.
Shetty informed that patch works have been completed in CMC limits. Only desilting works are pending.
The work was delayed due to Paryaya Mohotsava. Henceforth, extra care will be taken to initiate welfare measures in the areas, he assured. To a query on water supply in the city, President informed that there will be no shortage of drinking water in the city even if South West Monsoon gets delayed by a month.
There is sufficient storage of water in the dams at Swarna second phase project. The proposal of setting up of another dam near Baje is underway, he said.
Shetty informed that tender has been invited for the construction of new fish market at Adi Udupi, he added.
The other issue that grabbed the attention of the members was the seepage from the lorries carrying fish.
Member Kiran Kumar said police and traffic police should jointly handle the issue, he said.
Kiran Kumar raised the voice against the irregular parking of the vehicles within the city limits.
Commissioner assured that elaborate parking plans have been sketched out and that would be executed immediately with the help of police department. Parking lots will be made and tender will be invited for the purpose, he added.
