Urban Development minister S Suresh Kumar on Monday told the Legislative Assembly that the State government will issue a direction to all LPG cylinder distribution agencies in the State not to discontinue LPG cylinder connections to consumers without Aadhaar cards.
He was replying to N L Narendra Babu (Congress) who said several consumers in his Mahalakshmi Layout constituency in Bangalore had received notices from gas agencies to furnish the document before February 15. As a result of this, scores of panicked consumers are queuing up before centers issuing Aadhar cards in Bangalore, he said.
Kumar clarified that only those consumers in Tumkur, Mysore and Dharwad districts were required to furnish Aadhar cards for availing themselves of gas connections. “The government will issue a general clarification to all gas agencies not to demand this document from consumers. This procedure is only required of consumers in the three districts,” he said.
He said that the government had introduced a token system, aside from making arrangements for seeking prior appointments for applicants seeking Aadhar cards.
