A day after the sudden cancellation of the release of Kamal Haasan starrer Tamil film ‘Uttama Villain’, on Friday, the cinema hit the screens on Saturday in the city to a good response.

While two theatres and two multiplexes screened the movie, another theatre withdrew the screening, owing to the delayed in release.

The screening of the flick, directed by Ramesh Arvind a multilingual actor having his roots in Kannada, was started from the first show at Rajkamal talkies (4.30 pm) at Shivarampet and DRC Cinema (4 pm), a multiplex at B M Habitat Mall at Jayalakshmipuram, from 5 pm at Skyline, a mini theatre at Visvesvaraya Industrial Suburb and from 6.40 pm at Sathyam Cineplex at Mall of Mysore on M G Road.

G N Jeevan Kumar of Rajkamal told Deccan Herald, “Even though the screening was delayed by a day, the response was good with over 80 per cent of the total 900 tickets sold out. It is expected to pick up on Sunday”.

If not similar, the response at other cine halls was not poor, with the film being screened for five shows (screen one and four) at DRC and four at Sathyam. Chetan, manager of DRC, said: “Even rains could not deter cine lovers, especially Kamal Haasan’s fans, from coming towards the multiplex”. Satish, the manager at Sathyam, said, We had to refund the fare on Friday, after the sudden cancellation of the release.

At Thibbadevi, where the film was scheduled to be released, the exhibitor thought of withdrawing  the screening of the film. As a result, the theatre remained shut on Saturday evening, with the management planning to screen another movie from Sunday.
