Former MLA and Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha (KCVP) president Vatal Nagaraj on Saturday announced his support for Congress candidates from Mysore and Kodagu, and Chamarajanagar constituencies A H Vishwanath and R Dhruvanarayan, respectively.
Participating in a State-level seminar organised by his party in the city, Vatal, said that his party had decided to support the duo, as they were products of the Kannada movement.
KCVP also wanted to strengthen the hands of Siddaramaiah, who as the chief minister was “doing well”. “He should remain at the helm, till the completion of the five year term,” he said.
Vatal said that he would also campaign on behalf of them on April 15 starting from Mysore district.
Going down memory lane, Vatal said politics once had been a noble profession with stalwarts like S Nijalingappa, Shantaveri Gopalgowda, Sahukar Channaiah, H M Channabasappa, B Rachaiah, K Puttaswamy among several others bringing repute to the realm.
He recalled an incident at the Assembly, when the then home minister Ramarao resigned owning moral responsibility, when a policeman sexually assaulted a woman in custody.
“Such was the gesture of Rao that he responded by resigning, when Shantaveri Gopalgowda, the then MLA vociferously condemned the incident.”
Vatal demanded changes in election related laws, honesty among voters, and also the media for the survival of the nation.
