Kodagu District In-charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh visited the house of a student who was murdered after being sexually assaulted, and consoled the family members.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "The family of the victim will be given a site and a house. The compensation amount will be distributed shortly."
He said, "The details of the labourers from Assam and West Bengal should be furnished to the nearest police station. The estate owners should also furnish details on labourers to the police station.
The minister said the government is committed to constructing houses for siteless families working in coffee estates. The gram panchayats should discuss the matter in gram sabha and submit the report to the zilla panchayat and district administration.
MLA K G Bopaiah said four and a half acre government land is available at Ghattadahalla. The land should be distributed among poor siteless families.
Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy, Assistant Commissioner T Javaregowda and others were present.
