Victims from Thekkila camp to be shifted

The landslide and flood victims who are provided shelter at Thekkila community hall in Aranthodu will be shifted to relief centres in Madikeri and Sampaje on Tuesday.

Speaking to DH, Nodal Officer Veerappa Gowda said that nine families will be shifted to Madikeri, while the remaining 22 families will be shifted to Sampaje.

The community hall had to be vacated on Tuesday following a marriage slated to be held on August 30.

The Nodal officer from Madikeri has arrived and has taken down the names of families who will be shifted to Madikeri.

Kallugundi Relief Centre Nodal Officer Devaraj said that two families from the centre have returned to their relatives’ house.

At present 24 families with 161 persons are staying at the centre.

Satya Sai Vidya Kendra at Chokkady has admitted three children from the camp to the school for free education and boarding facilities.

One of the children is studying in ninth standard while two others are studying in seventh standard.

In fact, the authorities from Vidya Kendra were ready to offer free education and boarding to all the 20 children from the camp. However, neither the children nor the parents were ready to send their children to the Vidya Kendra, said the officer.

Dakshina Kannada DC Sasikanth Senthil said that the work on electricity restoration work in Jodupala and surrounding areas is also in progress.

In addition, the work on clearing the landslides at Arekallu is in progress and the victims are returning to their residence in Arekallu.
