ECO-Friends Group organised an awareness drive on ethical voting during the Savayava Santhe, at Mannagudde on Sunday.

Handbills and stickers were given to the customers on the occasion.

An awareness handbag bearing the date of the election in Dakshina Kannada and the message “My vote is my right”; was distributed on the occasion.

Banners demonstrating how to use the electronic voting machine (EVM) was also displayed. Awareness stickers were struck on the customers’ bikes and cars.

More awareness handbags will be distributed to at least 5,000 households in Mannagudda, Kadri areas said Rajesh of Eco Friends Group.

Meanwhile, Namma Bhoomi, Gram Panchayat Hakkothaya Andolana and Udupi district SVEEP too carried out a drive on ethical voting, at the weekly shandy, at Kundapura on Saturday.

The volunteers of Namma Bhoomi held a poster which read “Our vote is not for sale,” “My vote is my pride.”

Stickers and badges highlighting the need to exercise franchise was handed over to merchants, customers, auto drivers, two-wheeler riders, goods vehicle owners and labourers on the occasion.

The placards at the market read: “We sell vegetables and not our votes,” “We sell sugarcane juice and not our votes.”

A woman vegetable hawker said: “I have been voting since I turned 18 years old. Voting is our right.”
