Intermittent rain continued to lash Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Monday.
In the last 24 hours, Dakshina Kannada has received 93 mm of rainfall. This includes 109.5 mm in Belthangady, 105.9 mm in Mangaluru and 92.7 mm in Bantwal taluks.
Due to heavy rain, a tree fell on a road at Lady Hill and disrupted the movement of vehicles for sometime. Later, the officials from fire service rushed to the spot and cleared the tree.
The effect of the down pour was such that water levels in all the rivers --- Phalguni, Kumardhara and Nethravathi --- have seen a steady rise.
Two houses, including a house under construction, was damaged when a hillock caved in at Pilar. A tree fell on the house of Mahabala Poojary at Althodu in Karkala taluk and damaged the house. The wall of a house was damaged when the compound wall fell on it at Sanooru in Karkala taluk. In the last 24 hours, Karkala taluk received 95.5 mm of rainfall followed by Udupi 92.5 mm and Kundapura taluk 92 mm.
With the sea erosion, the Udyavara-Kanakoda-Padukere fisheries road is facing the threat. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in the coastal districts from June 13 to 16. The fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea for fishing.
In Kasargod
Heavy rain in the last three days has caused widespread damage to property in Kasargod district. The power supply, which was snapped on Sunday night, had not been restored till Monday evening.
A house was damaged in sea erosion in Kasargod. Water has entered six houses near Poomani-Kinnimani Dai-vasthana in Badiyadka. Four two-wheelers were damaged when a huge tree fell near Chervathoor Railway Station. With the lack of stormwater drains, rainwater had entered inside a few shops in Kasargod.
