A wild elephant trampled a man to death at Soolabaradoddi village near Halagur on Thursday night.

Muninanjaiah (65) was on his way to a temple on the outskirts of the village as part of Maha Shivaratri when the elephant attacked him. Others who were nearby ran and escaped the attack. Muninanjaiah fell into a canal due to the impact. Both his legs were broken and he died on the spot.

According to the villagers, they were walking in the dark and could not spot the elephant. As the deceased was attired in white clothes, the jumbo spotted him easily and attacked him, they said.
