“His talent is uncomparable; his legacy is unparallel. Rebimbus is undoubtedly an epochmaker,” Moily said. He was addressing a public tribute programme for Konkani music icon Wilfy Rebimbus at Milagress Hall in the City on Monday.
Rebimbus breathed his last in Mangalore after a prolonged illness on March 9 at the age of 68. He had ruled the Konkani music world for about five decades, composing over 3,000 songs.
“Wilfy’s music has inspired human psyche. He wanted to reform the society through music. He had great concern for the nation. I term him a true patriot,” Moily said.
“Wilfy is not dead; he is alive in the hearts of thousands of people through his compositions. His journey is continuous which does not stop due to his death. He has left behind a tradition and his golden foot prints,” he said.
A memorandum was submitted to Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on the occasion urging that the road stretch between Valencia Circle and Koti-Chennaiah Circle in the City should be renamed after Wilfy. Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, who was present, received the memorandum.
Wilfy’s son Vishwas and daughter Veena received a plaque from Rev Fr Denis Moraes Prabhu that marked the public tribute event attended by hundreds of fans of the musician.
