The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge B N Lavanya Latha has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment and imposed on a fine of Rs 10,000 on her for throwing her two-month-old  daughter into a river.

Kavitha, a resident of Tirumala Devarahalli in Roppa Mandal of Andhra Pradesh, is the convict. On August 24, 2016, Kavitha had brought her second daughter to Renuka Nursing Home in Koratagere for treatment. While returning home, she threw the baby into the Suvarnamukhi river near Koratagere. Kavitha then told her husband Manjunath and in-laws that autorickshaw drivers kidnapped her daughter and that she managed to escape from their clutches.

Manjunath had lodged a kidnap complaint at the Koratagere police station. During the questioning, Kavitha had confessed to the police that she was upset after she delivered a girl child and killed the baby by throwing it into the river. The Koratagere police inspector had submitted a charge-sheet to the court. Public Prosecutor G T Rangappa had represented the state in the matter.
