A 25-year-old woman, who filed a rape and kidnap complaint against Ramachandrapura math seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi at the Girinagar police station recently, approached a women’s safety panel headed by legislator V S Ugrappa on Wednesday stating that no action had been taken against the seer so far.
The woman filed a petition before the expert committee on safety of women and children headed by MLC Ugrappa. The committee has been set up by the government. She stated that while it had been four days since she filed the complaint, no action had been taken by the police so far. She was at the Vidhana Soudha this afternoon along with the members of Janawadi Sanghatana.
The woman stated in her complaint that she was raped by the seer twice. She was first raped in 2006 when she was a Class 10 student at a school in Hosanagara, Shivamogga district, the headquarters of the mutt. She was again raped in 2012 when she had visited the mutt’s branch in Girinagar.
Ugrappa said he would speak to the officers handling the case and submit a report to the government. He said the victim had stated that she had been threatened not to reveal anything about her case to the CID which was investigating another rape case against Raghaveshwara. However, she declined police protection as it would compromise her identity, Ugrappa said.
