According to sources, the encounter took place in the Uruppumkutty forest region, close to the Karnataka border. Weapons including three guns were seized by the Thunderbolt commandos.

Though no Maoists could be held, it was suspected that they suffered injuries in the encounter as blood stains were found in the region. Hence, all nearby hospitals were also put on high alert, police sources said.

Last week, two Maoists were held from the forest areas of nearby Wayanad following an encounter. A series of incidents of Maoists' presence were reported from Wayanad over the last couple of months.
