Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday offered prayers at the famed Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple and Thriprayar Shree Ramaswamy temple in Thrissur district in Kerala.
Modi also graced the marriage of actor-turned Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Suresh Gopi's daughther's marriage at the Guruvayur temple premises.
Modi, who is on a two-day Kerala visit since Tuesday, offered prayer at the Guruvayur temple by around 8 am. Later he graced Gopi's daughther's marriage by handing over garlands to the couple Bhagya and Shreyas. He also greeted acclaimed actors like Mammotty and Mohanlal who were present.
Later Modi proceeded to the Thriprayar Shree Ramaswamy temple, one of the few temples in Kerala where lord Ram is the main deity. It is believed that the idol at the temple was worshipped by lord Krishna.
After offering prayers Modi also fed the fishes in the Thriprayar river, which are believed to be 'Matsya avatar' of Lord Vishnu. He also listened to vedic hymns recital by students of the Brahmaswom Madom of the
Modi later said that he was happy that he got an opportunity to visit the Thriprayar temple ahead of Ayodhya consecration.
Modi's Thrissur visit, especially gracing the marriage of Gopi's daughter, assumed political significance as Gopi is tipped to be the BJP's candidate for Thrissur in the Lok Sabha polls. The BJP is having high hopes of opening account to the Lok Sabha from Kerala by winning Thrissur as Gopi who contested from Thrissur in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly polls could considerably increase BJP's vote share even as he could finish in the third place only.
