Thiruvananthapuram: The National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C) at Kozhikode in Kerala has been shut for three days in view of stir by students on Thursday demanding suspension of a student who protested against a celebration in the campus in connection with the Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration should be revoked.
The suspension of Vysakh Premkumar, a degree student of electronics and communication department, has been put on hold until the appellate authority decides on the student's appeal.
Students in large numbers launched a flash stir on Thursday afternoon by blocking the gates of the institute.
Premkumar had led a protest against celebration by a group of students in the campus on January 22 with a map of India painted in saffron as part of the Ram Temple consecration. It had led to clashes in the campus. Hence, he was placed under suspension by the institute authorities in this regard the other day.
The students allege that no action was taken against the students who assaulted Premkumar.
