Large parts of Rajasthan inundated after heavy rains

According to the Met department, Ramsar in Jaisalmer received a record 17 cm of rain on Sunday.

The Thar Express train between India and Pakistan also delayed by almost 12 hours late at Munabao railway station in Barmer district since railway lines between some stations in Pakistans Sindh and Barmer were submerged in water, said railways officials.

The Sonar fort in Jaisalmer too suffered some damages in the heavy downpour. The wall of a hotel room in fort collapsed, but luckily it was empty at that point of time.

Similarly, a house in the fort collapsed, while the wall of another one fell, blocking a lane.

The administration has cautioned the residents of the fort to remain on alert. Residents of Kawas in Barmer district, were asked to leave their houses to safer locations.

The vehicles of administrative officials in both Barmer and Jaisalmer were stranded due to heavy water-logging, posing hindrance in rescue operations. Jaisalmer district collector Mahaveer Prasad Swami said two-three feet water has accumulated in many villages in Fatehgarh sub division. There were reports of collapse of Dozens of kachcha houses in the area, he said.

Sub divisional officer at Shiv in Barmer, Nakhatdan Detha, said it was raining heavily in their area and many villages and hamlets have been filled with water.

Taanu village has been evacuated and people were being shifted to safer places. A few kachcha (thatched) houses have collapsed in this village, he said.

Barmer sub divisional officer CL Devasi said as water was accumulating in Kawas village,   villagers have been asked to evacuate their houses.
