Delhi launches scheme to ensure govt programmes reach construction workers

The Delhi government Monday launched 'Shramik Mitra' scheme to ensure that the benefits of various programmes reach construction workers.

As part of it, 800 'Shramik Mitras' will reach out to construction workers, inform them about the schemes launched by the Delhi government, connect them with relevant government schemes and ensure that no worker is left out of any programmes.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said Shramik Mitras will inform construction workers registered by the Construction Board at the ward level about assistance schemes of the government and help them apply for it. (PTI)

Three Maoists lay down arms before Jharkhand Police

Three dreaded Maoists, allegedly involved in several cases of attack and arson, surrendered in Jharkhand on Monday, the police said.

Among those present during the surrender are Amol B Homkar, Inspector General of Police (Operations), and Pankaj Kamboj, Deputy Inspector General of Police. Balloon Sardar and Gaju alias Suraj Sardar, both area commanders of the CPI(Maoist), along with squad member Geeta Munda laid down their arms, a statement issued by the Jharkhand Police said. (PTI)

The cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 109 crore on Monday, the Union health ministry said.

More than 54 lakh vaccine doses have been administered till 7 pm.

The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late night, the ministry said.

Kuwaiti govt resigns, possibly helping to end political standoff

Kuwait's government on Monday submitted its resignation to the ruling emir, a move which along with an amnesty pardoning political dissidents could help end a standoff with opposition lawmakers that has hindered fiscal reform.

The resignation, reported by state news agency KUNA, is the second this year by a government headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah in the feud with the elected parliament of the Gulf OPEC producer.

It was not immediately clear if Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah, who has final say in state matters, would accept the resignation of the government, which was formed in March. (Reuters)
