Hitting out at actor Kangana Ranaut for describing India's Independence in 1947 as 'bheek' or alms, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra slammed the actor for her "insensitive comments" and urged the Centre to withdraw the Padma Shri conferred on her and also demanded her arrest.

Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik said she has insulted the freedom fighters and suggested that the actor might have made the comments under the influence of drugs.

"Looks like Kangana Ranaut took a heavy dose of Malana Cream before making such a statement," he said.

The MVA leaders also demanded clarification on her statement from the opposition BJP.

“Kangana Ranaut has a habit of making such statements. She has insulted the country…she should apologise to the nation. All her national awards must be withdrawn,” Shiv Sena chief spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member said.

State Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant said: “This is BJP's Jhansi ki Rani who dares to insult the freedom struggle and sacrifices of freedom fighters, martyrs by saying “aazadi bheek me mili hai”. Such puppets are being nurtured by BJP deliberately for this filth. So these parrots are not real culprits but their master is,” he said.
