Bhopal: At least 21 police personnel were injured when a bus in which they were travelling overturned while speeding with a truck on the Betul-Bhopal highway early on Saturday morning.
The cops were returning from election duty in Chhindwara when the accident took place.
Nine out of the 21 injured were rushed to the district hospital in Betul while the other 12 were taken to the primary health centre in Shahpur for treatment.
Most of the injured sustained minor injuries and were released after the administration of first aid and some rest. Additionally, the nine who were rushed to the district hospital are also reportedly stable.
According to available information, the bus bearing registration no MP 13 P-2233 overturned after a dash with a truck while navigating a blind/sharp curve near Baretha Ghat.
The bus had departed from Chhindwara for Rajgarh after election duty late last night. There were 34 people in the bus, including 33 police personnel (police constables and home guard jawans) and a cleaner.
According to SP Betul, Nischal Jharia, a majority of those injured have already been discharged, while the remaining are slated to be discharged by Saturday evening.
The police have seized the truck and a case under Sections 289 and 337 has been registered. However, the truck driver managed to flee the spot after the accident and a manhunt is currently underway to nab him.
