Birla said the plantation drive has become a people's movement across the country.

The Speaker planted a sapling on the premises of the Border Security Force in the Bijasan area in Indore as part of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya were also present.

Talking to reporters, Birla said, "The world is battling climate change, and to address these challenges, Prime Minister Modi has given a new message to the world to adopt an environment-friendly lifestyle and started the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign'." During the G20 Speakers' Summit in New Delhi last year, the countries of this global alliance resolved to make the initiative to adopt an environment-friendly lifestyle a people's movement, he said.

"Indore, the country's cleanest city, has taken a new initiative to plant 51 lakh saplings. With this, it will also become the greenest city in the country in the coming days," he said.

According to officials, under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign launched on June 5 on World Environment Day, 5.50 crore saplings will be planted across Madhya Pradesh, and of these, 51 lakh will be planted in Indore alone.

The plantation drive in Indore will culminate on July 14.
